Sandra Larsen is the President & Market Business Leader for AES Hawaiʻi, a long-time provider of low-cost electricity in the islands. Sandra drives AES Hawaiʻi’s strategy, planning, and operations. AES Hawai‘i has nine renewable energy projects in operation or under development statewide – more than any other developer. Sandra has 20 years of executive management and legal experience in Hawai‘i's energy and shipping industries. Prior to leading AES Hawai‘i, she was Vice President of Legal, Regulatory, and Government Affairs for Young Brothers, LLC. Before that, Sandra provided legal counsel and managed regulatory and strategic initiatives for Hawaiian Electric. One of her key responsibilities was managing and directing the overall strategy and execution of various regulatory filings before the Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission.
Sandra began her career in law, serving as a Federal Law Clerk in the U.S. District Court for Judge Samuel King and Magistrate Judge Leslie Kobayashi. She then worked as an associate attorney for Morihara Lau & Fong LLP, where she specialized in utility law cases.
An alumna of Kailua High School, Sandra graduated with a BBA in Accounting from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Shidler College of Business, then earned a Juris Doctor degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law. While in law school, she was named Co-Editor-in-Chief of Law Review.
Sandra serves on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Maui, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the American Red Cross of Hawai‘i. She also serves as a Heart Walk Executive Team Leader for the American Heart Association and a Commissioner on the City and County of Honolulu’s Grants in Aid Advisory Commission.
